We caught up with Megan before she hits the big stage to perform her last gig of her UK tour.
Megan how does it feel to be reaching the end of your tour?
Ahhh in some ways it’s a relief because I will finally be able to get some early nights, touring really shatters you. But it’s sad too because I’ve loved every minute of it, it’s so amazing to sing and people sing along with me and actually know the words to songs I wrote, it’s incredible. But there will be more tours in the future I hope.
What’s been the best part of the tour?
Literally just when I’m on stage singing my heart out, and I look down and theirs all these people enjoying themselves. I also love meeting my fans after, really makes me happy to have people look up to me and aspire to be like me, its weird cause to me I’m just a regular girl, well I was 6 months ago anyway!
Where was your favourite place to play?
Oh I couldn’t say they were all so good, I guess I especially liked gigging in my home town of Norfolk. I played Waterfront and it was great to see people I recognise in the audience supporting me, but then again I loved playing the big venues like Manchester and seeing such a big building packed out.
How did you get so far in such a short amount of time?
I really don’t know one minute I’m singing in my bedroom and learning simple chords and the next a label is really interested in me, I used to play small gigs and then I was lucky enough to play Norwich arts centre and from their I was signed.
How did you learn to play the guitar so well?
I got inspiration from my father as he used to play lullabies to me on his acoustic guitar when I was a little girl. As soon as I was old enough to pluck a string I always wanted to learn. My father showed me all the basics and from there I was teaching myself new riffs and songs all the time. I took music in high school and college and I learnt to write music which led to me righting my first own guitar piece
And you also play the piano?
I do, I started to learn it again from a young age. I’ve taken all my grades and passed them but I still have so much to learn. I love writing songs to sing using the piano, it’s a beautiful instrument. On my album there are some songs including piano and guitar which sadly I can’t perform live as I had to record the two pieces separately but I think the two sounds go so well together.
What musicians inspire you?
Oh I’m a big fan of Laura marling, I used to listen to her when I was first getting my musical style and I was in oar of her talent, one day I would love to tour with her. There are so many others I couldn’t list them all!
So Megan you’ve been working on an album what was the highlight in making it?
Just the whole experiences you no, working with the guys producing it was fun, we had a laugh. I really loved putting all the work in because I was so happy with the end result.
Well Megan here’s one all the girls want to know, is there a man in your life?
-blushes- yes there is, we have been together 3 years now, you could say we were childhood sweethearts, I’ve known him since I was about 4 and always loved him, I’m so happy we are now together and going strong!
Is he supportive of your music?
Oh yes very, he loves to hear me sing to him, I’ve tried teaching him guitar. He is slowly getting the hang of it bless him.
What song holds most meaning to you?
Oh that’s easy, it has to be ‘where did you go’, I wrote it about my mother as she died when I was young, it’s a really sad song but it means so much to me. Whenever I sing it I feel like she is listening somehow, yeah now I sound crazy. My mother was a beautiful woman.
I’m sure she would be very proud of you Megan, but Who do you think is your biggest fan?
I think this would be my mother if she were alive today, but then also my dad for getting me into music in the first place, and for that I thank him.
